Topcoder is constantly evolving and improving. We want to make sure that as we are releasing new features, it will be intuitive and helpful to our audience, the Topcoder Community. We are in search of members old and new, experienced and freshly registered, pretty much whoever wants to participate can do so. The only catch here is that we only have a certain number of spots for each grouping!

GROUPS

Topcoder Veterans Group

If you have been an active member on Topcoder for 5 or more years, you will take a spot in this group.

Topcoder Rookies Group

You will be placed in this group if you have been a Topcoder member for less than two years.

SUBGROUPS

You will further be grouped based on your interests and participation at Topcoder. Although the majority of features we are working on affect the general Topcoder community, there are times when we work on new features that pertain to a particular track on Topcoder.

APPLYING

Beta Testers at TC - applying image

Please only apply if you feel like you meet the following criteria:

  • Enjoy giving truthful constructive feedback

  • Will try your very best to attend virtual meetings with the Topcoder Team to discuss your findings.

  • Will be able to complete Journeys within 48 hours

Because these opportunities are highly sought after and important to the success of the Topcoder platform, we do reserve the right to remove a member from a group if they do not submit their journeys/feedback in a timely fashion or if the quality of feedback happens to be subpar.

Although you may notice that our groups are filled, you may still apply as that will place you on the “Alternates” list and you may be called on if someone from one of the groups does not work out or if one of our tests require more members to participate.

Please fill out the application truthfully and it will be manually reviewed to assure you are placed in the correct group.

FAQ

HOW LONG WILL EACH TESTING SESSION TAKE?

It really depends on what is being tested!

Each testing session will be broken up by small, medium, and large sizes and will be paidaccordingly.

Small Tests: 0-2 Hours
Medium Tests: 2-5 Hours
Large Tests: 5+ Hours

DO I NEED TO BE PROFICIENT IN ENGLISH TO PARTICIPATE?

You do not need to be fluent, but if you can at least get your point across in a written format you should be ok.

There are some cases where a virtual meeting will take place after a test. We ask that every member contribute to these meetings and similarly your english does not need to be perfect, but we must at least be able to understand your comments.

DOES MY INTERNET CONNECTION SPEED MATTER FOR THE TESTS?

This is another case that depends on what is being tested!

Sometimes we will need you to click around a UI Prototype, which doesn’t require a fast connection speed, but other times you may be clicking around a development instance of one of our products, in which case you will be required to have a decent Internet connection speed.

If you do not have a suitable connection speed, please inform the copilot running the test and if you are in good standing, you will not be removed from our list, however we will replace your position for that particular testing.

We will be sure to acknowledge if having an average Internet Connection Speed is required prior to the Test.

WILL THE SAME PEOPLE BE USED FOR TESTS ONCE THEY SIGN UP?

It depends!

If what we are testing requires a general audience (members of all experiences) we will pick members randomly from multiple groups as shown above to get a wide array of views and feedback.

However, if we are testing something specific to a particular track, like Design for example, we will choose from the Design group and will give priority to those who have the least amount of participations.

Giving constructive feedback and completing tests on time regularly will help your case when we make our picks in the future.

HOW EARLY AHEAD OF TIME WILL I BE NOTIFIED OF AN UPCOMING TEST SESSION?

You should be notified at least 48 hours prior to the test in an email that is associated with your Topcoder account.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I’M SELECTED AND CANNOT MAKE IT?

If you do not respond in 24 hours we assume you cannot or do not wish to participate in that test and we reserve the right to choose another member to take your place.

How many projects am I allowed to take part in?

You can participate in as many projects as you’d like! If there are multiple testings going on at the same time, the Topcoder Admins will make sure not to book the same person twice.

How long can I be in this group of beta testers?

For as long as you’d like to participate and as long as you are giving constructive feedback and completing the tests on time.

Can I opt out if I don’t want to take part anymore?

You sure can! We just ask you to [contact us] (support@topcoder.com) and let us know so that another member will have an opportunity to participate.

Do I have to be technically savvy to take part or is that not required?

Nope, you do not have to know how to code at all! These tests are all based on a user’s experience. We are just looking for your honest feedback. Simple right?
